Study at UCLA Extension and advance your career
STUDYING ABROAD AT UCLA
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is off-campus work authorization allowing an F-1 student to participate in an internship.
The internship allows you to gain valuable work experience in your field of study while earning academic credits and progressing towards program completion.
Eligibility Requirements (CPT):
- UCLA Extension certificate students must have maintained legal F-1 visa status for at least three academic quarters (9 months).
- Enroll in the appropriate internship course after CPT approval.
- Maintain legal F-1 status and obtain approval from the academic department.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows you to work in the United States and gain practical experience in a profession directly related to your field of study for one year after completing your program.
Eligibility Requirements for OPT:
- Be in the final quarter of the UCLA Extension certificate program.
- Have maintained legal F-1 visa status for at least three academic quarters (9 months).
- Receive an 1-20 form with approved OPT from your ISS advisor before submitting your online application with USCIS.
